Zig-Zaggy Egg Cosy (R4)

zig-zaggy egg cosy

In this pattern the egg cosy is knitted inside out. Why you ask? Well it just sort of happened that way and it's always been too much trouble to fix. Make sure to switch yarns on the side facing you or they will show on the finished cosy.

A printable version of this pattern is available.

You will need:

  • double knit yarn in black and white
  • 4 x double ended knitting needles (3.25mm)
  • tapestry needle
  • scissors

Pattern:

Cast on 48 stitches in black, join into the round.

(A list of abbreviations is available.)

  1. Round 1: [p1, yrn, p4, sl1, p2tog, psso, p4, yrn.] x 4 (48)
  2. Round 2: [k1, kb, k4, p1, k4, kb] x 4, switch to alternate coloured yarn. (48)

Repeat rounds 1 and 2 eight more times. On the last repeat of round 2 do not switch yarn colours. The rest of the egg cosy will be worked in black.

  1. Round 19: [p5, sl1, p2tog, psso, p4] x 4 (40)
  2. Round 20: [p4, sl1, p2tog, psso, p3] x 4 (32)
  3. Round 21: [p3, sl1, p2tog, psso, p2] x 4 (24)
  4. Round 22: [p2, sl1, p2tog, psso, p1] x 4 (16)
  5. Round 23: [p1, sl1, p2tog, psso] x 4 (8)

Thread yarn through remaining sts and pull tight.

Making Up:

Sew in any remaining loose ends.

The image above shows the top of the egg cosy. For a neater finish, use a single stitch to pull the peak of each zig-zag towards the centre of the square and fix in place.
