Doll (R3)

You will need:

  • yarn leftovers (double knit)
  • toy stuffing
  • popping corn
  • 4 x double ended needles (3mm)
  • tapestry needle
  • scissors

Body

Cast on 28 sts and join into the round.

  1. Round 1: k –
  2. Round 2: [kfb, k11, kfb, k1] x 2 (32)
  3. Round 3: k –
  4. Round 4: [kfb, k13, kfb, k1] x 2 (36)

Knit the next 18 rows straight.

  1. Round 23: [k1, k2tog, k13, k2tog] x 2 (32)
  2. Round 24: k –
  3. Round 25: [k1, k2tog, k11, k2tog] x 2 (28)

Cast off.

Stuff with the body with un-popped popping corn and sew the ends together so that it is shaped like a flattened square.

Arms/Legs

Cast on 8 sts and join into the round.

  1. Round 1: k –
  2. Round 2: [kfb, k1] x 4 (12)
  3. Rounds 3 to 5: k –
  4. Round 6: [kfb, k3, kfb, k1] x 2 (16)
  5. Rounds 7 to 9: k –
  6. Round 10: [kfb, k5, kfb, k1] x 2 (20)
  7. Rounds 11 to 13: k –
  8. Round 14: [kfb, k7, kfb, k1] x 2 (24)
  9. Rounds 15 to 19: k –
  10. Round 20: [k2tog, k4] x 4 (20)
  11. Round 21: k –
  12. Round 22: [k1, k2tog, k2] x 4 (16)
  13. Round 23: k –
  14. Round 24: [k2, k2tog] x 4 (12)
  15. Round 25: [k2tog, k1] x 4 (8)

Stuff the shape lightly with toy stuffing, cut yarn, pull through remaining sts and pull tight.

Make 4 in total.

Head

Cast on 12 sts and join into the round

  1. Round 1: k –
  2. Round 2: [kfb, kfb, k1] x 4
  3. Round 3: k –
  4. Round 4: [kfb, kfb, k5, kfb, kfb, k1] x 2
  5. Rounds 5 and 6: k –
  6. Round 7: [kfb, k11, kfb, k1] x 2

Knit the next 8 rounds straight.

  1. Round 16: [k1, k2tog, k11, k2tog] x 2
  2. Rounds 17 and 18: k –
  3. Round 19: [k1, k2tog, k2tog, k5, k2tog, k2tog]
  4. Round 20: k –
  5. Round 21: [k1, k2tog, k2tog] x 4

Stuff the shape lightly with toy stuffing and cast off. Flatten the shape and sew the ends closed.

Making Up:

Diagram showing how the pieces of the doll are arranged.

Attach the head to the body half-way along one edge.

Sew one arm/leg to each corner.

Use a minimum amount of stitches. The doll will be sort of floppy but that's part of its charm.
