Paint Brush (R3)

knitted paint brush

Here's a quick bonus pattern, a knitted paint brush to go with the knitted paint. Both entirely useless of course, but that's sort of the point of us.

A printable version of this pattern is available.

You will need:

  • Yarn Scraps (double knit)
  • toy stuffing
  • gummed tape
  • thin wooden dowelling (e.g. barbecue skewer)
  • 4 x double ended knitting needles (2.75mm)
  • tapestry needle
  • scissors

(A list of abbreviations is available.)

Nozzle

Cast on 3 sts in brown and join into the round.

  1. Round 1: k2, kfb (4)
  2. Round 2: k3, kfb (5)
  3. Round 3: k4, kfb (6)
  4. Round 4: k5, kfb (7)
  5. Round 5: k6, kfb (8)
  6. Round 6: k7, kfb (9)
  7. Rounds 7-10: k –
  8. Round 11: [k2tog, k1] x 3 (6)

Push a small amount of toy stuffing into the opening and then change to grey yarn.

  1. Round 12: k –
  2. Rounds 13-14: p –

Change to purple yarn and knit in the round until the purple measures 14cm.

Thread yarn through remaining sts.

Making Up:

Cut a 15cm length of dowelling. Wrap a length of gummed tap around the dowelling approximately one third of the way along (to make a bulge in the paintbrush handle). Insert the dowelling into the knitting with the taped end nearest to the brush.

Sew in any remaining loose ends.

Notes:

Needle/Yarn Size

As with most ODDknit patterns the yarn and needle sizes in the "you will need" section are just a guide. Feel free to improvise with whatever needles and yarn you have lying around - that's half the fun!
